Open Burning Banned In Marin County
Marin County Fire enacted the open burning ban as it prepares for another wildfire season.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – Open burning is banned for the season in Marin County. As of May 1, the Marin County Fire Department has banned open burning for the purpose of crop replacement, forest management, orchard pruning and range management.
Although Cal Fire is allowing permitted burns in many areas of the state, Marin County Fire followed the Bay Area Air Quality Management District's recommendation and put the ban in place as a precaution. Outdoor wood stoves and fire pits that are 3 feet in diameter or less are permitted to use for cooking or warming as long as the air district does not call a Spare the Air Alert.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is the regional agency responsible for protecting air quality in the nine-county Bay Area. During the summer months, Spare the Air Alerts are issued when smog, or ozone pollution, is forecast to reach unhealthy levels.
