Pet Rabbit Stolen From Marin County Fair

"We hope the community will rally together to help find the rabbit and return it home safe and sound."

SAN RAFAEL, CA – A beloved pet rabbit was stolen last week during the Marin County Fair, county officials said. The rabbit was taken on the Fourth of July from a cage in the Fur and Feathers tent at the fair in San Rafael.

A fairgoer who witnessed the incident reported the theft. Security officers searched the grounds but did not find the rabbit. The family did not want to share a photo of the rabbit and did not wish to talk with media about the theft.

The rabbit was not a top prize winner, but the beloved pet belonged to an 11-year-old girl who had raised it since birth. She was devastated by the theft, county officials said.

This was the first reported case of animal theft at the Marin County Fair. Due to the incident, officials limited the number of people allowed in the tent at one time. Animals were also consolidated to one area of the tent.

"This is not only a devastation for the little girl but for our fair which strives to showcase and teach the public responsible animal care and handling and has an award-winning reputation in the agriculture community," said Gabriella Calicchio, director of cultural services for Marin County.
