Power To Be Restored: No Additional Outages Planned In Marin

It was previously announced that an estimated 119,533 customers in Marin could lose power in another PG&E shutoff planned Tuesday.

UPDATE:

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Power will continue to be restored to Marin County customers affected by the weekend's planned outages, Pacific Gas and Electric Company announced Tuesday afternoon. PG&E no longer plans to cut power to Marin customers during another Public Safety Power Shutoff scheduled Tuesday.

"We are continuing to inspect and patrol the lines in the areas impacted by Saturday's PSPS today and therefore we expect power to continue to be restored today," PG&E spokeswoman Deanna Contreras said.

"We do not expect any additional PSPS-related outages in Marin County today," she added. "We've been able to find ways to minimize impact to Marin County customers by isolating areas of the grid."

There are currently about 50,000 customers without power in Marin from the planned shutoff and other unplanned outages. There is no estimated time of restoration.

"If you are currently out in Marin, we are working safely and as quickly as possible to restore power," Contreras said.

"With that being said, customers may experience other unplanned outages, not related to PSPS, due to weather impacts and normal service impacts," she added.

It was earlier announced that an estimated 119,533 customers in Marin, including 2,115 medical baseline customers, could lose power in the latest shutdown. The utility company reported that the shutoff hit Marin at 7 a.m. At that time, Contreras said the utility was in the process of de-energizing portions of the county that were restored Monday.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Most Marin County customers affected by the weekend power outage remained in the dark Tuesday morning, as Pacific Gas and Electric Company prepared for another massive blackout.

PG&E announced Monday that another Public Safety Power Shutoff would begin Tuesday affecting 596,000 customers in 29 counties across Northern and Central California. Marin is expected to be the hardest hit.

Another Power Shutoff

An estimated 119,533 customers in Marin, including 2,115 medical baseline customers, could lose power in the latest shutdown. The utility company's nine-phase shutoff hit Marin at 7 a.m. PG&E was in the process of de-energizing portions of the county that were restored Monday, according to company spokeswoman Deanna Contreras.

Customers are expected to be impacted in the following cities and communities in Marin: Belvedere, Bolinas, Corte Madera, Dillon Beach, Fairfax, Fallon, Forest Knolls, Greenbrae, Kentfield, Lagunitas, Larkspur, Marshall, Mill Valley, Muir Beach, Nicasio, Novato, Ross, San Anselmo, San Geronimo, San Rafael, Sausalito, Stinson Beach, Tiburon, Tamales and Wood Acre.

Power Restorations

About 970,000 customers in 37 counties were affected by the weekend outage, including an estimated 118,535 customers in Marin. By 10 p.m. Monday, power had been restored to about 556,400 customers, according to PG&E.

Marin officials said that PG&E crews began inspecting power lines at 6 a.m. Monday.

As of 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, PG&E confirmed that roughly 50,000 metered locations countywide had their power restored from the shutoff event that started on Saturday. About 70,000 metered locations remained without power. Those restored could lose power again Tuesday.

"While we are hopeful that power will be restored in Marin County as soon as possible, the process of inspecting power lines and fixing any damage from the wind before re-energization takes time," county spokeswoman Laine Hendricks said.

County officials encouraged people whose power is restored between shutoff events to charge any medical equipment, phones and other electronic devices as well as restock emergency kits.

"While PG&E is working to restore power from the previous outage, some PG&E customers may remain out of power through the duration of this next potential Public Safety Power Shutoff," Hendricks said.

"If you see PG&E personnel in your neighborhood inspecting lines, please be kind to them and do not interfere with their work. The faster they can inspect and repair lines, the earlier power can be restored."

PG&E has been shutting off power proactively to prevent wildfires after utility lines started massively deadly and destructive fires over the last two years. PG&E has estimated that similar power shutoffs may be necessary for the next decade until the company can upgrade its technology.

All public schools in Marin County will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday due to the uncertainty with the current PG&E power shutoff, as well as another shutoff expected to begin Tuesday evening.
