SAN RAFAEL, CA — Police arrested a man early Monday morning after he allegedly burglarized a downtown San Rafael business.

The owner of the business in the 800 block of Fourth Street called police shortly before 1 a.m. to report that he was watching a man burglarize his store via surveillance cameras.

Within minutes, a responding officer spotted the suspect, later identified as Christopher Allen Siegle, 36, of Vallejo, walking on Cijos Street, according to the San Rafael Police Department.

Siegle, who matched the business owner's suspect description, was about to get on a motorcycle when he was detained. He gave officers a fake driver's license and name, police said. Police ran a record check of the motorcycle and found that it had been reported stolen out of San Francisco.

Officers watched the surveillance video and confirmed that Siegle was the suspect, police said. Police searched Siegle's belongings and found the items stolen from the business. They were valued at just under $4,000.

Officers determined Siegle had gone to the second-floor business and broke a panel of sheetrock to break into the store, police said.

Siegle, who was on post-release community supervision out of Contra Costa County, was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of commercial burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, fraudulent use of another person's identification, possession of burglary tools, vandalism and other charges.
