San Rafael Man Arrested After Sausalito Police Pursuit

Aaron Long, 45, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and evading arrest, among other charges.

SAUSALITO, CA – A 45-year-old San Rafael man was arrested Monday after he led officers on a pursuit and allegedly pointed his vehicle at a police unit and threatened to ram it, according to the Sausalito Police Department.

Sausalito police arrested Aaron Long on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, evading arrest, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and possession of methamphetamine and drug
paraphernalia.

Police said an officer spotted Long on Bridgeway speeding in a two-door Toyota Celica around 11:59 a.m. today and attempted to pull him over, but Long didn't stop. During the pursuit, Long allegedly attempted to
brake check the officer "by slamming on his brakes without cause," police said.

At another point, police said Long allegedly made a quick u-turn and pointed his car directly at the police cruiser as if he was going to strike it with his vehicle.

The pursuit continued into unincorporated Marin County, where police said Sausalito officers lost sight of Long, but a Marin County sheriff's deputy spotted him a few minutes later and continued pursuing him.

Long continued the pursuit from state Highway 131 to southbound U.S. Highway 101 and then to the state Highway 1 on-ramp near the Manzanita Park and Ride Lot.

Police said Long then sideswiped another vehicle in the 100 block of the Shoreline Highway and crashed into the dirt. No one was injured in the crash, police said.

A 33-year-old Nevada resident was also in Long's vehicle. She was interviewed and later released without charges.
