San Rafael Police Investigating Similar Home Burglaries

Both burglaries occurred this month at homes on Egret View in San Rafael.

SAN RAFAEL, CA – Police are investigating two similar residential burglaries that occurred in the same San Rafael neighborhood this month.

The San Rafael Police Department responded around 7 a.m. Monday to a burglary in progress at a home on Egret View after the resident heard breaking glass and someone entering her house, Lt. Alan Piombo said.

The resident hid in an upstairs bedroom when she heard someone coming upstairs. The suspect broke the rear sliding glass door, Piombo said, and tried to remove a safe before fleeing.

The suspect was described as being 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 4 inches tall with a stocky build and was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and a pink cap or beanie under the hood of the sweatshirt, according to Piombo.

More than a week prior, on Jan. 18, 2017, a burglar smashed the rear sliding glass door of another residence on Egret View between 9:45 a.m. and 8:50 p.m., Piombo said. The suspect ransacked several rooms and took a gold tanzanite and opal ring worth $5,000.
