San Rafael Subway Shop Robbed

The clerk gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash, and the suspect fled the scene with the money and a sandwich.

SAN RAFAEL, CA – Police in San Rafael are investigating an armed robbery that occurred last Thursday at a Subway sandwich shop.

Officers with the San Rafael Police Department responded Thursday at 8:28 p.m. to a report of a robbery at the restaurant on Irwin Street.

Police said the suspect walked into the restaurant at 8:15 p.m. and waited to use the restroom.

The suspect used the restroom and ordered a sandwich, and as the employee finished making the sandwich, the suspect opened his jacket, displayed a firearm and demanded the clerk give him the money in the register.

The clerk gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash, and the suspect fled the scene with the money and the sandwich.

The clerk was not injured during the robbery.

Responding officers searched the area but were not able to locate the suspect. Police were able to obtain video surveillance of the incident and are working to identify the suspect.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, 30 to 35 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall and with a short black beard. He was wearing a knit cap, a red jacket, blue jeans and white shoes.
