San Rafael's Cooney Honored With Dipsea Scholarship
Selected along with four other high school seniors by the Dipsea Race Foundation, the Marin Catholic High student will use the money toward his education at the University of Michigan.

San Rafael's William Cooney, a senior at Marin Catholic High, was among five high school seniors awarded a total of $22,500 in college scholarships by the Dipsea Race Foundation at the Dipsea Hall of Fame Dinner at the Mill Valley Outdoor Club on Friday night.
Cooney plans to attend the University of Michigan.
Also earning scholarships through an application process that weighed athletics, essay writing, letters of recommendation and Dipsea participation were Tam’s Daniel Milechman and Hannah Berman, Redwood's Benjamin Vogensen and Rachel Skokowski Castilleja High in Palo Alto.

Milechman, the two-time California state Division 4 cross country champion, was honored as the first Bill Patterson Scholarship winner. He is headed to Harvard.
Berman plans to attend the University of California, Vogensen has chosen College of Marin and Skokowski has been accepted at Princeton University.

Also at the dinner, of Ross was named to the Dipsea Hall of Fame.
The two-time race winner was the 25th inductee into the exclusive club.
