Sex Offender Compliance Checks Conducted In Marin County

"It is the department's objective to keep the community safe, especially at a high-risk time for offenders such as Halloween season."

MARIN COUNTY, CA – The Marin County Probation Department prepared for Halloween by checking to see if sex and DUI offenders living locally were in compliance with the terms of their probation.

Marin County Sheriff's detectives, county probation officers, Novato and San Rafael police officers, state parole agents, and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation K9 units conducted unannounced searches Tuesday, Oct. 30, throughout the county, contacting 39 registered and non-registrant sex offenders and DUI offenders.

Twenty-five of the 39 offenders were contacted and 31 of the 39 residences were searched for items that qualified as violations of their probation, according to county officials. After checking phones and other electronic devices, 30 of the 31 searches conducted were found to be in compliance. Four cell phones and a tablet were seized for further investigation.
