The 15-year-old was booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of attempted robbery, resisting arrest and violation of probation.

SAN RAFAEL, CA – A teenager was arrested after allegedly trying to rob another boy Monday in San Rafael.

San Rafael police Detective Cpl. Michael Mathis was riding with another detective to follow up on a case shortly before 8 a.m. Monday when he spotted two male juveniles on the street, according to police Sgt. Lisa Holton. After seeing one of the boys shove the other, Mathis exited the unmarked police car and began to approach them.

Mathis spoke with the victim, who said the suspect tried to rob him, Holton said. The victim believed the suspect, who fled the area on foot, was armed with a knife.

Mathis recognized the suspect as a 15-year-old student at a local school, Holton said. School officials reported that the teen showed up for summer school but left the campus.

Mathis later found the suspect at Northgate Mall, but the boy ran into the mall, Holton said. The suspect ran from officers again before his mother found him. She turned him over to police.
