Each item at Zeba is created or chosen by Krsna Mehta, the award-winning Indian design director and author who has been featured in Elle Décor Magazine.

With stores throughout the Indian sub-continent, as well as in the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Holland, South Africa, Mauritius and the Philippines, the company’s decision to open the first U.S. site in San Rafael was based on research that said Marin County residents are well traveled and sophisticated in their taste.

When a cosmopolitan designer like Mehta styles a collection each season, then oversees the fabrication, you can be sure that everything works together.  The pages of design magazines showcase rooms with a mix of texture, color and sheen.  This is where Zeba excels.

The Persian word “Zebaish” means beautiful.  And indeed, Zeba is a beautiful and luxurious bazaar which carries artisan crafted home furnishings, clothing and accessories. The visual impact of the store conjures up Indian markets with vibrant spice colors like saffron, cardamom and tamarind. The fabrics, all made exclusively for Zeba, are opulent, even mysterious in the case of organza and other see through or shimmery materials.

The concept of the store is that it can function as your personal interior designer. Zeba will create a “mood board” containing swatches and samples of the textiles, colors and fabrics you are considering so you can see how the items will look in your home before making a purchase. Designers always put together this type of board, but few stores do.

This unique direction differentiates Zeba from other home furnishings  stores which typically carry collections from various manufacturers leaving the shoppers on their own to mix and match things that may or may not work together in style or proportion.  Zeba is a great resource for decorators, and home stagers who seek high quality cost effective furnishings.

Zeba's unique look can be coordinated to create a complete decorating “story.”  Or, Zeba pieces can be added to traditional or contemporary rooms for a dramatic design punch.  Each season brings a changing palette of color, weave and textile.

At Zeba, the hand painted or carved furniture ranges in style from classic to contemporary to avant-garde.   You will find desks, dressers, cabinets, carpets and seating collections for the living room and tables, table cloths, mats, napkins and runners to grace a dining room.

For the bedroom, there are opulent and downright sexy fabrics in sensual colors.  Sumptuous bedspreads, bed sheets and bedding, throws, quilts and pillows, many of which are beaded, embroidered or appliquéd, have matching or coordinating window treatments and drapes.

To finish a room in decorative accents, you will find marvelous accessories like candlesticks and bold wall art.  Statuary includes Indian gods and goddesses should you choose to add a spiritual dimension to your space.

Zeba’s clothing racks include shawls, scarves and tops all created by popular Indian designers.  There is a large selection of jewelry, many items in semi-precious stones, such as necklaces, pendants, earrings and bangles.

Rugs, carpets and dhurries are produced at Zeba’s facility in Mirzapur, North India and Panipat, near New Delhi. There is a nice range of hand tufted and flat weaves, kilms and dhurries in 100 percent wool.

Before moving to San Rafael, General Manager Elvis Fernandez worked at Zeba in India and, because he communicates with the headquarters daily, he is conversant about the concept and always knows what is behind the design curtain for next season.

The stock at Zeba is constantly changing and often you will find sales. Currently on discount are quilts, and some furniture, hand knotted rugs and dhurries. On sale or not, the price point is always reasonable and the quality of product is enduring.

An internationally acclaimed store whose head designer Krsna Mehta receives rave reviews from the global press,  is certainly an unexpected and exciting addition to our San Rafael community.  Beautiful!
