San Ramon Endures Rain, Wind & Cold Ahead Of Election

SAN RAMON, CA — It’s going to be a cold, wet and windy election in San Ramon, and much of California. A storm is bringing rain and high winds to much of the state, and a healthy sprinkling of snow to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It is the second major rainstorm of the season: last Tuesday, San Ramon got about a quarter of an inch of rain.

San Ramon can expect rain and wind until later Wednesday, according to an Accuweather forecast. As of noon Monday, it is 59 and partly sunny, with some showers expected later in the day that could deliver as much as a half-inch. Winds are reported to be 8 mph, but gusts could reach as high as 20 mph.

Winds along the northern California coast are expected to reach up to 45 mph Monday, and the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for coastal through 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Tuesday is expected to be 54 degrees, but wind gusts of up to 25 mph will make it feel closer to 50. Five and a half hours of rain are expected to drop another half-inch of rain.

Wednesday is expected to be 59, partly cloudy, with only one hour of rain delivering just 0.05 inches of rain. Thursday is expected to be mostly sunny, 59, with no chance of rain.

Although flooding is unlikely, San Ramon residents and businesses can pick up sand and sandbags at several park sites:

• Central Park, along Alcosta Boulevard main entrance
• Athan Downs Park, on Montevideo Drive near Davona Drive
• San Ramon Sports Park in Dougherty Valley on Sherwood Way near East Branch Parkway.

Anyone in unincorporated Contra Costa County, you can pick up sandbags at any of six locations around the county.

Here are a few flood safety tips, courtesy of the CDC and the City of Dublin:

• Gathering at least a 3-day supply of non-perishable food and water.
• Have immunization records handy.
• Check your emergency supplies.
• Bring in outdoor items or tie them securely.
• Keep your car fueled and cell phone charged.
• Avoid low-lying areas subject to flooding and don’t drive in flooded areas.
• Never drink flood water. During a water advisory, use only bottled, boiled, or treated water for drinking.
• Listen to boil advisories to know if water is safe for bathing and drinking.
• Use generators at least 20 feet from any doors, windows, or vents to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
• Clean debris from storm drains.
• Keep garbage cans and cars at least one foot from the curb to avoid blocking stormwater flows.
