Bomb Threat Called Into California High School, Deemed Not Credible
Cal High went under lockdown Wednesday afternoon after an anonymous caller called in a bomb threat. Officers found no suspicious items.
SAN RAMON, CA — An unidentified person called in a bomb threat to Cal High Wednesday afternoon, according to Principal Demetrius Ball.
At about 1:50 p.m., the office received a phone call that there were bombs on campus ready to go off within minutes, Ball told families in an email sent Wednesday night, after police had found no suspicious items on campus and lifted the lockdown.
The caller mentioned the gym and commons in their threat. The school called the San Ramon Police Department and immediately evacuated all students from the gym. The school commons were already empty at that time, the school said.

The school then entered a secure campus protocol, which requires students and staff to be in a classroom or field and continue activities as normal. Multiple officers were dispatched to the building.
Ball said that during the search, officials received reports of a person on the roof of the main building. Upon those reports, the school entered lockdown protocol, when classroom doors are locked, lights are turned off, and classes remain as quiet as possible until the threat is resolved.

The person on the roof was later identified as a maintenance worker authorized to be there. Officers found nothing suspicious during a thorough search of the campus, and the lockdown was lifted. Students were dismissed using regular protocol.
Officers remained on campus through the rest of the day, and say they will maintain an increased presence on and around campus through the rest of the week. Police continue to investigate the origin of the phone call.
Ball urged anyone disturbed by the incident to reach out to school counseling, and reminded families of the CareLine tool on the school website to report anything suspicious.
