Santa Barbara Unified expands e-bike safety program for students (ksby.com) — Santa Barbara Unified is tightening e-bike rules for the 2026-27 school year, requiring students who ride to campus to complete safety training, register their bikes, and obtain permits. The expanded program, now at all junior highs and several high schools, emphasizes helmets, legal bike classifications, and safer riding habits as faster, more powerful e-bikes appear on local streets.

Santa Barbara to Review, Revise Automated License Plate Reader Policy (noozhawk.com) — Santa Barbara residents should know the City Council has halted use of automated license plate reader cameras until it can thoroughly rewrite the city and Police Department's surveillance policy. The 5-2 vote pauses ALPR-assisted investigations, as councilmembers, police leaders, and groups like Indivisible Santa Barbara clash over privacy, data sharing with federal agencies, and how long license plate data should be stored.
   

5. Breast Cancer Resource Center hosts 28th annual Pink Lounge Gala at Rosewood Miramar - Santa Barbara News-Press (newspress.com) — Santa Barbara residents affected by breast cancer are invited to support the Breast Cancer Resource Center's free local services at the 28th annual Pink Lounge Gala on October 9 at Rosewood Miramar Beach in Montecito. The evening will feature a cocktail reception, dinner, live auction, and dancing, with proceeds funding counseling, wellness programs, and integrative therapies for clients across Santa Barbara County.
