5th Annual Live Oak Jack Rabbit 1-Mile Run &amp; Student Art Contest Fundraiser on April 19, 2026
The non-profit Live Oak Education Foundation is raising funds to support the schools within the Live Oak School District.
The 5th annual Live Oak Jack Rabbit 1-Mile Run and Student Art Contest Fundraiser will take place on Sunday, April 19th, at Shoreline Middle School on 17th Avenue in Santa Cruz, CA. Opening ceremonies begin at 8:45 AM. Registration for the 1-mile races on the USATF-certified track are open to the public online at: <a href="https://tinyurl.com/LOJR2026" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">tinyurl.com/LOJR2026</a>
The first wave of runners takes off at 9:00 AM and races continue every 15 minutes through 11:45 AM. The funds raised go to support the arts program for the Live Oak School District students.  Prizes for the fastest times will be awarded during the Closing Ceremonies, which begin at 12 noon.
All are invited to join this community fun run for the 1-mile challenge as a solo runner or as part of a relay team.  View student art on display and cast your vote for your favorites, browse the merchant marketplace, enjoy food, entertainment and community partner booths.

Breath+Oneness Yoga

Looking to free up some space? You’ve come to the right place. Within modern times we have been accustomed to sitting in chairs, at desks working, or in many situations that aren’t conducive for proper posture or optimal function in our bodies. Lots of people are struggling with issues in their back, neck, shoulders, and wrists and don’t have effective options to combat this. In this workshop, we will work deeply with the fascia throughout the upper body and more. Fascia is the connective tissue that holds the bones, ligaments, muscles, organs, and just about everything else down to the cellular level. We will move, twist, and breathe, all of which will impact the entire body to release tension and open up. To help us integrate, we will complete the session with a 15 minute Reiki-infused gong bath that will support your body in the entire process of regeneration and expansion. Fascial Maneuvers is a powerful up-and-coming modality developed by Human Garage that allows the body to heal itself by utilizing unique postures, breath, and movement. This process frees up restrictions in the body, allows for better mobility, and helps break through blockages. With a clear intention, these techniques work on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level, bringing balance, harmony, and empowerment to the human experience. You will leave feeling more expanded, like a weight has lifted off your shoulders so you can head back into life with a greater sense of ease. Samuel Renfroe is a Reiki Master, Yoga/Meditation Teacher, and a Certified Facial Maneuvers Coach by Human Garage. He likes to explore all forms of wellness–body, mind, and soul. His journey has called him to look deeper, learning how to become the full expression of himself through service, travel, community, play, and everyday life interactions. As he continues this process, he invites you to join him in all that he has learned so we can share in a greater sense of well-being. His teaching style brings emphasis on grounding into the body through the breath, mindful movement, and a meditative awareness. He also loves to discover new ways of working with the body to realign and live from the heart. His work combines the energetic and physical realms for a holistic approach to being human.

In this immersive session, you will learn the foundational skills for playing these ancient instruments. No prior experience is necessary. What You’ll Learn:
<ul><li>Basic Gong Techniques: How to strike, roll, and control sound using various mallets</li><li>Selecting a Gong: Understanding gong types and how to choose one that suits your goals</li><li>Gong Stands &amp; Setup: Exploring different stand options for portability and stability.</li><li>Mallets &amp; Accessories: How mallet size, weight, and materials shape the sound and mood of your playing</li></ul>
You’ll have the opportunity to try different gongs and mallets, ask questions, and receive one-on-one guidance. Who This Workshop Is For:

A gong-centered sound experience (sound bath style) inviting rest, listening, and integration. The session begins with gentle instruments — harmonium, crystal bowls, flute and handpan, to help the body arrive and relax. As the experience deepens, the gongs become the primary voice, filling the space with rich, layered tones. Silence then gentle instruments support an easy return at the end. Some people come simply to rest and unwind. Others notice patterns softening, or gain clarity about what they are ready to release or move toward. There is no right way to receive the experience. No experience is required. You lie down, get comfortable, and allow the gongs to meet you where you are. Adron Beene is a gong player, classically trained musician, and Viniyoga RYT 500 teacher based in Royal Oaks California. He lives on a small, oak forested sheep farm, where the rhythms of land and animals quietly shape his approach to sound. This annual gathering—this year, part of the Ripple Effect Santa Cruz Arts Festival—uplifts women-identified and non- binary poets and honors the creative spirit that has inspired our community for over four decades.
Join us Tuesday, April 21 at 6:30pm for a two-hour poetry reading at the Resource Center for Nonviolence, 612 Ocean Street, Santa Cruz. The evening will feature vibrant and diverse poetry from 17 poets, including two Cabrillo students, coming together to share original work and celebrate the power of language and community; Gabriella Gutiérrez y Muhs, Elizabeth Robinson, Kaily Dorfman, Veronica Kornberg, Rebekah Wolman, Chopsy Gutowski, Pearl Kan, Amanda Chiado, Hilary King, Heather Duffy, Andrena Zawinski, Cassandra Bautista, Zoe Ly Bredesen, Jennifer Trainor, Wilma Marcus Chandler, Rachel Huerta, and Andrea Wilson.
Suggested donation is $10-$40. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Your donations will help Monarch Services of Santa Cruz County continue their work offering aid to survivors of violence and abuse. Parking is available onsite and across the street at the County Government Building.

On Earth Day, UC Santa Cruz launches the inaugural Arts &amp; Ecology Festival: Creative Resistance, a campus-wide gathering that refuses to treat climate change as a problem of carbon alone. Instead, it brings together artists, scientists, students, and community partners to engage the deeper conditions of the crisis, and to open space for cultural, political, and imaginative transformations grounded in repair, reciprocity, and collective futures. 
 
Taking place at the Digital Arts Research Center (DARC), the festival unfolds as a full day of exhibitions, film screenings, performances, workshops, talks, and public engagement. Developed through an open call that drew an overwhelming response across disciplines, the program reflects a growing field of practitioners working across environmental research, land-based knowledge, climate resistance, and practices of repair that move beyond dominant institutional and economic frameworks.
