Dominican Announces New PET CT Scanning Technology With Less Radiation
This cancer diagnostic technology is brand new to Santa Cruz County.

News from Dominican Hospital:
Dignity Health Dominican Hospital now offers the most advanced Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography (PET CT) scanning technology available – allowing for more precise visualization of cancerous tumors, and reducing patients’ exposure to radiation by more than 30 percent.
The hospital is the only medical facility in Santa Cruz County delivering this leading edge technology. And Dominican is also the only hospital in the Monterey Bay region to offer PET CT scans five days a week.

“This PET CT scan technology is an important part of our comprehensive cancer care services,” said Nanette Mickiewicz, MD, president of Dominican Hospital. “Our patients can have peace of mind knowing that they do not need to travel outside our community for the most advanced oncological care.”
PET CT scans depict areas of high metabolic activity within the body – activity that typically indicates the presence of tumors. Images are rendered in 3D rotational high definition, allowing physicians to determine the true size, shape, stage, and location of cancerous tumors with far greater accuracy than ever before. This enables the medical oncologist to develop the most effective treatment plan for the type of cancer.

The new technology also shortens the length of the scan, therefore reducing the amount of radiation to which patients are exposed.
