Santa Cruz County Agrees To Purchase 38 Acres For New Park

The purchase price is $2.3 million.

SANTA CRUZ — Santa Cruz County has approved a $2.3 million deal to purchase a new park, county officials said Tuesday.

The county's Board of Supervisors unanimously voted for the purchase agreement for a 38.5-acre park along Whiting Road adjacent to the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, the county said in a news release.

The park will include athletic fields, a demonstration farm and a nature trail, among other
amenities. According to county officials, this is the first park acquired by Santa Cruz County in over 20 years.

The initial development phase of the park is likely to take up to 18 months, county officials said.

"Seeing this vision become reality is a dream come true for South County constituents
and all Santa Cruz County residents," Supervisor Felipe Hernandez said in the news release.
