Scotts Valley Shooting: Central Valley Man Charged
An unnamed Central Valley man was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting of a CHP officer on a Highway 17 pursuit.
SCOTTS VALLEY, CA — An unnamed 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following a police chase and shooting Tuesday night. The female driver is still at-large, though investigators believe she might 41-year-old Alexandria Luevanos.
On Wednesday afternoon, CHP announced that it located the male suspect walking along SR-17 near Laurel Road, following numerous reports of a man matching the suspect description. The man, whose name has not been released, was arrested after police traced him a GMC Yukon connected with the incident.
The incident began at 9:51 p.m. on Tuesday, when Santa Cruz Area CHP officers stopped a black GMC Yukon at the shoulder of SR 17 southbound just north of Glenwood Drive, according to a CHP news release. As officers were trying to contact the vehicle occupants, the female driver started the car and sped away.

Officers chased the Yukon, but it refused to yield, police said. The car turned onto Scotts Valley Drive, and moments later began shooting at the officers, who then discontinued the pursuit.
A little while later, CHP received calls of an abandoned vehicle matching the Yukon's description on Tabor Drive in Scotts Valley. The Scotts Valley Police Department and numerous other agencies arrived, and initiated a shelter-in-place order for the area. After a long search, the scene was cleared, and the shelter-in-place order was lifted.

Police say officers and extra patrols will continue to be present in the Scotts Valley neighborhood, and are asking people to avoid the area.
Investigators believe the female suspect may be 41-year-old Alexandria Luevanos, according to a post on the CHP Santa Cruz Twitter. Luevanos is described as approximately 5'7" and 130 pounds, with red hair. She was last seen wearing a pink hooded jacket. Anyone with information is asked to call the non-emergency number can call the SVPD at 831-440-5670.
