Spat In Street Leads To Carjacking In Watsonville

The incident occurred Wednesday on Main Street.

Police in Watsonville this morning are investigating a Wednesday carjacking.

Officers responded at 7:10 p.m. to the area of Main and Ford streets to a report of a fight with weapons and learned from the victim and witnesses a carjacking had occurred.

Police said the victim was traveling south on Main Street when he was forced to stop to avoid hitting a pedestrian crossing his path.

The victim honked at the pedestrian, and the pedestrian kicked the victim’s vehicle, which led to a physical altercation in the street, police said.

The pedestrian got into the vehicle, which was running, and shut the driver’s side door. The victim opened the door and tried to pull the suspect out of the vehicle, but the suspect was able to fight off the victim and drive away down Main Street, police said.

The vehicle had not been located as of Wednesday night. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male between 40 and 45 years old. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Watsonville Police Department at (831) 768-3350.
