The 3–2 vote reflects disagreement over how urgent and risky such projects are locally, with some supervisors urging proactive protections and others wanting more information before limiting potential future uses.
   

2. World Elite Sumo Brings Pro Sumo to Santa Cruz (goodtimes.sc) — A new professional sumo league is bringing a major tournament to Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz on Saturday, Sept. 26, with tickets starting at $50. Twelve male wrestlers and a first-ever women's pro bracket will compete in a family-friendly, slightly Westernized version of traditional sumo, giving locals a rare chance to see world-class competitors and a global mix of athletes up close.
   

3. KSBW 8 Honors Hispanic Heritage Month on the Central Coast (ksbw.com) — Santa Cruz County's large Hispanic and Latino community is being highlighted this month through KSBW 8's Hispanic Heritage Month coverage across the Central Coast. Stories and vignettes will showcase local traditions like El Grito, Danza Azteca, Día de Muertos, and Latino entrepreneurship, inviting residents to learn more about the culture shaping nearby communities.
   

4. Truck overturns, causes traffic delays in Santa Cruz (santacruzsentinel.com) — Traffic near River Street and Highway 1 in Santa Cruz was heavily backed up Monday afternoon after a Budget rental truck overturned while hauling unsecured water bottles. No one was injured, but cleanup and towing kept only one southbound Highway 1 lane open until about 5 p.m. as crews cleared debris and righted the vehicle.
