SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — In an effort to preserve old-growth coast redwoods on a large, privately held property in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Thursday the California Coastal Conservancy board unanimously voted to set aside as much as $2.5 million toward the Save the Redwoods League's push to purchase the Cascade Creek (Holmes) Property, the Santa Cruz Sentinel reported.

The 554-acre coastal property stretches from Año Nuevo State Reserve south to Big Basin Redwoods State Park.

Efforts to preserve old-growth redwoods in the area have been ongoing for decades. Since 1918, Save the Redwoods League has worked to protect and restore redwood forests.
