Suspected Gang Shooting Outside Santa Cruz Nightclub Reported Friday
One person injured outside The Catalyst on Pacific Avenue and Cathcart Street, police said.

One person was injured in a suspected gang-related shooting outside of a nightclub in Santa Cruz on Friday night, police said.
Officers responded to a report of a gunshots fired in the area of The Catalyst located at Pacific Avenue and Cathcart Street around 10:30 p.m., police said. Arriving officers learned that two males were fighting at the street corner and witnesses heard between two and seven gunshots during the altercation, police said.
One of the people in the fight fled the area west on Cathcart Street after the shots were fired, according to police.

He is described as a heavy-set Hispanic man between 25 and 35 years old who was wearing a black Oakland Raiders Jersey with the number 75 in large white figures with the name “LONG” on the back, police said.
Witnesses saw a black SUV flee east on Cathcart Street after the shooting, according to police. Other witnesses who saw the altercation reported that many people ran away in multiple directions, police said. Officers recovered multiple small caliber shell casings at the scene, according to police.

The victim was transported to Dominican Hospital for treatment of a minor injury and was later released, police said. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Santa Cruz Police Department’s investigation unit at (831) 420-5820.
