Watsonville Man, 18, Fatally Shot Last Month Identified

Police suspect his death stemmed from a road-rage incident, and are looking for a white car similar to a Chevy Equinox.

A man shot and killed during a suspected road rage incident last month in Watsonville has been identified as 18-year-old Moises Perdomo, according to the Santa Cruz County coroner’s office.

Perdomo was a resident of Watsonville, an employee of the coroner’s office said today.

Watsonville police responded to a reported shooting at 2:14 p.m. on Dec. 28 at the intersection of Marchant Street and Maple Avenue near Watsonville High School.

Officers arrived and found the 18-year-old victim, who had been shot in the head, slumped over the wheel of his vehicle, which was driven partly onto a sidewalk.

He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead later that day, police said.

The shooting occurred during an apparent road rage incident that involved two groups pursuing each other back and forth, police said.

Investigators believe the shooting might have been related to gang activity, although they said the victim did not have gang ties.

Police said investigators are searching for a possible witness to the shooting who drove a white vehicle similar to a Chevrolet Equinox.
