Freeway Reopens After Bomb Squad Investigation

A suspicious vehicle parked near Aviation Boulevard prompted the closure of the 105 Freeway as well as the Metro Green Line Wednesday.

UPDATED AT 10:11 A.M.: A report of a “suspicious” van in a parking lot near the Metro Green Line’s Aviation/LAX Station today prompted a bomb squad response and the closure of a stretch of the nearby Century (105) Freeway before it was determined that there was no threat.

The bomb squad was sent shortly before 9 a.m. to the station near Aviation Boulevard and 115th Street. The area was declared safe shortly before 10 a.m., said Anna Chen of Metro.

As a precaution during that time, authorities closed the 105 Freeway between Sepulveda Boulevard and Inglewood Avenue, as well as the transition roads leading to the westbound 105 from the San Diego (405) Freeway, causing a traffic nightmare for motorists in the area.

Metro Green Line service also was affected, and authorities ordered the establishment of a “bus bridge” to ferry rail passengers around the area, according to Metro. Rail service resumed shortly before 10 a.m., Chen said.
