Cops Search For Suspect Who Attacked Sleeping Santa Monica Woman
The man broke into her apartment while she was asleep, grabbed a knife from the kitchen and then demanded money and property from her.

SANTA MONICA, CA – The Santa Monica Police Department is looking for the public’s assistance with any information related to a violent home invasion robbery that occurred Friday morning. At approximately 3:30 a.m., SMPD responded to a radio call for service regarding an “Unknown Trouble” at an apartment complex in the 1700 block of 5th Street – when they arrived, they found a woman in an apartment suffering from significant injuries, according to the press release.
Santa Monica Fire Department Paramedics responded and treated the victim at the scene. She suffered from multiple stab wounds and lacerations caused by the attack. The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition, is undergoing surgery and remains hospitalized.
SMPD Detectives conducted a preliminary investigation that revealed the male suspect forced his way into the victim’s apartment while she was asleep, grabbed a knife from the kitchen and then demanded money and property from her. The suspect stabbed the victim in the arm and jumped on top of her; a struggle ensued and the victim was able to fight off the suspect, the press release said. The suspect fled the apartment through the front door. SMPD reported the suspect is described as a black male between 25-30 years old, wearing a red beanie and dark colored camouflaged sweat pants.

A search of the area led to the recovery of evidence in the 1500 block of 12th Street – this led to an extensive perimeter search, and SMPD’s SWAT and K9 Teams were activated, the press release said. The suspect is believed to have suffered a significant cut to his hand, and remains outstanding.
