Elderly Man In Racist Parking Space Brawl Gets Probation
Video of the incident at Santa Monica College showed the man and woman taking wild swings at one another and attempting to kick each other.
SANTA MONICA, CA – An 80-year-old man was sentenced Thursday to 36 months of informal probation for shouting racial slurs at a black woman and starting a fight in the parking lot of the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Campus.
Frederic A. Shinerock was sentenced for battery on school grounds and disturbing the peace by offensive words for the May 1, 2018 incident, according to an SMC press release. He's also required to attend 26 one-on-one anger management sessions and complete one year of mental health counseling.
“I will never understand how you could spew such hate at a stranger. . . at me. The fact is, we both should have been able to enjoy the SMC Performing Arts Center that day and feel accomplished and joyous, instead all I feel is fear and sadness," the woman said in her victim impact statement.

Video of the incident taken by college student Enrique Conde showed Shinerock shouting a racial slur at the woman and telling her "she didn't belong there," and to "go back to South LA." The video showed the man and woman taking wild swings at each other and trying to kick each other as an officer attempted to calm the situation.
Conde told KTLA he was on his way to class when he saw what he described as a "deeply sad moment" and began recording it on his cellphone. The man became angry at the woman, who is also a student, because she had parked over the line of her stall, Conde told the news station. As she was correcting it, he began lashing out at her.
