Fundraiser Set Up For Victim Of Violent Home Invasion Robbery

The man forced his way into her Santa Monica apartment while she was asleep, grabbed a knife from the kitchen, & demanded money from her.

SANTA MONICA, CA – A GoFundMe has been set up to fundraise for the victim of the violent home invasion robbery that occurred Feb. 23 in Santa Monica. At about 3:30 a.m., Santa Monica Police Department responded to a radio call for service at an apartment complex in the 1700 block of 5th Street. When they arrived, officers located a woman, now identified as Leigh Collins, in her apartment suffering from multiple stab wounds and lacerations caused by the attack; the suspect fled the scene.

The suspect, who has since been arrested, forced his way into the apartment while Collins was asleep, grabbed a knife from the kitchen and then demanded money and property from her. The suspect stabbed Collins in the arm and jumped on top of her; a struggle ensued and Collins was able to fight off the suspect, according to SMPD. The suspect fled the apartment through the front door.

"Courageously, she fought off her attacker, saving her own life," Lois Hines, the GoFundMe coordinator wrote. "Her wounds will heal over time but in the meantime, she needs your help."

Hines wrote that all of the funds raised will go towards helping Collins during the healing process. Most of the wounds were to her hands and arms, so Collins won't be able to work for some time, Hines wrote.

"Leigh is a daughter, grand daughter, sister, niece, cousin, girlfriend, friend and an absolute bad ass," Hines wrote.
