Homeless Men Accused Of Showering, Cooking In Stranger's Home

A Santa Monica man came home from Christmas shopping to find two men cooking a meal in his apartment.

SANTA MONICA, CA – Two homeless men were charged with burglary Wednesday after allegedly breaking into a Santa Monica home, taking a shower and cooking a meal, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

Robby Spillman told NBC the homeless men ate his food, took a shower and made themselves at home in his Santa Monica apartment.

"They were able to get on my patio and come in through the back,” Spillman told the news station. "I saw two homeless men in my home cooking themselves dinner."

Police identified the intruders as Elijah Smart, 29, Markis White, 19, who were found by Spillman after he came home from Christmas shopping.

Spillman said the men smelled and wore filthy, ripped clothing, and told him they hadn't expected him home so soon and asked if they could "hang out" for a while, according to the Ventura Star.

Spillman told the men he was going to take his dog Rocky for a walk, and that's when he called 911. He and his girlfriend have a baby due in two weeks, and the couple is now looking for a new home, the news website said.
