1. 82-Year-Old Pedestrian Critically Injured In Santa Monica Collision (patch.com) — An 82-year-old woman is in critical condition after being hit by a turning vehicle while she used a marked crosswalk at 5th Street and Wilshire Boulevard in downtown Santa Monica. Police say the driver stayed at the scene, is cooperating, and does not appear to have been under the influence, while investigators continue to examine how the crash occurred.
   

2. Iconic Santa Monica Pier Sign Finally Coming Down For Restoration (patch.com) — Santa Monica's iconic "Yacht Harbor" sign at the Pier entrance will soon be temporarily removed for restoration as part of the city's multi-year project to replace the aging Pier Bridge. While the exact removal date isn't set, the $35 million bridge upgrade is underway, with restaurants and attractions remaining open and a half-scale replica sign available for photo ops during construction.
   

3. SMC Glass Pumpkin Sales This Fall in Santa Monica (smdp.com) — Santa Monica residents can shop one-of-a-kind glass pumpkins at three upcoming Santa Monica College fundraisers, including events at Virginia Avenue Park and the main campus on Pico. Proceeds support the SMC Art Department, the Santa Monica Public Library, the Lowe Family YMCA, and local artists, giving you a chance to decorate for fall while backing community programs.
   

4. Join & Thrive: Film Screening & Volunteer Fair in Santa Monica (smdp.com) — Santa Monica residents are invited to a free film screening and volunteer fair at the Main Library on Saturday, Oct. 3, from noon to 4 p.m. After watching and discussing the documentary "Join or Die," you can meet more than a dozen local organizations, from Meals on Wheels to Santa Monica Forward, and find concrete ways to get more involved in community life.
   

5. Santa Monica Bay Turns Pink Again for Ocean Science (santamonica.gov) — If you spot bright pink water near the Santa Monica Pier on Tuesday, Sept. 29, it's a harmless dye released by UCLA researchers studying how currents move around the breakwater. Working with the city and The Bay Foundation, the team hopes the experiment will improve understanding of water circulation and support ongoing efforts to protect ocean water quality beneath the Pier.
