He brings more than two decades of California city experience and will start Sept. 21, succeeding interim clerk Denise Anderson-Warren and taking charge of vital transparency and democracy functions at City Hall.
   

5. Warm ocean waters bring unusual fishing boom off Southern California coast (abc7.com) — Anglers fishing off Santa Monica and Marina del Rey are reporting unusually large yellowtail, bonito, and even dorado as warm El Niño–driven waters push typically southern species into local seas. Scientists warn that while the boom is exciting for fishermen, similar marine heatwaves have previously damaged kelp forests and ecosystems, so residents should see this as both a rare opportunity and a potential environmental warning sign.
