A follow-up to September's board meeting from guest speaker, Mayor Ted Winterer

"Following up on last night:
1. Liz asked about my blog post with a mid year review upon which I based my opening remarks last night. Apparently as part of our efforts to upgrade our incredibly clunky web site it's being held as part of an overhaul which will be launched next week. So please stay tuned.
2. In the meantime MCN members can sign up to receive our new email newsletter here:

3. We touched on employee compensation and costs some last night. What didn't come up are the reports by Transparent California which have caused consternation among some in our community. It's worth noting that group's reports are produced by the Nevada Policy Research Institute, a right-wing think tank apparently funded by the Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson and other billionaires with a climate change denying, anti-union agenda, so their stats and comparisons to other cities should arguably be taken with grain a salt.
A better source of data is the site run by the State Controller Betty Yee:
http://publicpay.ca.gov/Reports/Cities/Cities.aspx
You'll see SM is 40th is average wages, for instance, behind Culver City and Beverly Hills, among others. Still in the high end statewide but not as dire as some would claim.
Regards,
Ted

Mayor, Santa Monica City Council"
