Deputy Ken Collier's Crew Ready to Rock San Diego Walk Like MADD
The team walks each year in honor of Collier, who was killed on duty while trying to stop a drunk driver on Highway 52 in Santee.

SANTEE, CA β The San Diego County Sheriff's Department and the San Diego City Attorney's Office are teaming up again this year to honor the memory of Deputy Ken Collier by participating in San Diego Walk Like MADD 2016.
Team "Ken Collier's Crew and His Public Safety Family" is made up of family members, friends and colleagues of the deputy who was killed in the line of duty in February 2010 while trying to stop a drunk driver going the wrong way on Highway 52 in Santee.
Walk Like MADD is Mothers Against Drunk Driving's signature fundraising event to help the organization raise both awareness and funds to eliminate drunk driving. This year, thousands of people in more than 60 U.S. cities around the nation will participate in 5K events to eliminate drunk driving from the nation's roadways.

The San Diego event, which has a fundraising goal of $100,000, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15 at Liberty Station Park at the former Naval Training Center, 2455 Cushing Road, in San Diego.
Ken Collier's Crew, which currently has 18 participants and welcomes newcomers, has already surpassed its fundraising goal of $1,519 by more than $1,000.

"We walk in honor of Ken, forever keeping his memory alive, and we walk in honor of all of the law enforcement deputies and officers who risk their lives every day so that we are safer," the team states on its page on Walklikemadd.org.
