Mother Dead, Son Arrested Near Santee

LAKESIDE, CA — A man was taken into custody on suspicion of murder after his 79-year-old mother was found unresponsive at a home in Lakeside, officials said.

Arleigh Clifford Anderson, 50, called 911 on Monday around 1:15 p.m. and said he'd taken too much of his medication and "doesn't remember what happened, but thinks he hurt his mom pretty bad," San Diego Sheriff's Lt. Mike Krugh told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Deputies were dispatched to a home on Riverview Drive, where they found the woman unconscious with signs of trauma, according to Lt. Joel Stranger of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

First responders attempted livesaving measures, but paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene, Fox 5 San Diego reported.

The woman has not been identified.

Anderson was arrested and booked into the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of murder. Homicide detectives said the motive is still under investigation.
