Bay Area Skier Tragically Killed In Tahoe-Area Avalanche
BREAKING: Search parties were looking for the 64-year-old since he went missing Saturday.
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA – A man killed by an avalanche while skiing at a Lake Tahoe-area resort in Nevada over the weekend was identified today as Thomas Barker, a 64-year-old Aptos resident, according to the Washoe County medical examiner's office.
At 1:49 p.m. Saturday, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office announced via Twitter that multiple agencies were searching for the man, later identified as Barker, who had been skiing at the Mount Rose Ski Tahoe
resort.
The search was suspended just after 2 p.m. over safety concerns and was called off for the day just before 5 p.m., according to the sheriff's office.

Emergency personnel began the search again at about 9:15 a.m. Sunday and were able to locate Barker's body at about 1 p.m.
"The body of a man believed to be the missing skier was located by searchers working within the search area shortly before 1:00pm Sunday," the agency said.

The 1,200 acre Mount Rose ski area is located in the Reno region.
