• Southern Marin fire district welcomes new chief (pressdemocrat.com) — Sausalito residents now fall under the leadership of new Southern Marin Fire Protection District Chief Heather Marques, who was sworn in at Fire Station 1 in town. Marques, the district’s first woman chief, will oversee fire and emergency services for Sausalito and nearby communities stretching from Mill Valley to the Marin Headlands.
   

• California Flare Disposal Event on October 24 and 25 (latitude38.com) — Sausalito boaters can safely dispose of expired marine flares at Clipper Yacht Harbor on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 8 a.m. to noon, as part of a statewide collection effort. Only residential and recreational flares are accepted, with proof of eligibility required, and organizers urge locals to switch to reusable electronic distress signals to avoid hazardous waste problems.
   

• California, Bay Area win big at the 2026 Great American Beer Festival (eastbaytimes.com) — Sausalito’s own Best Day Brewing just earned a bronze medal at the Great American Beer Festival for its Light American Pils nonalcoholic beer, putting the town on the national craft-beer map. The wider story highlights California’s dominant showing, especially Bay Area breweries, and underscores how local producers are thriving even as overall beer consumption declines.
