Elderly Shooting Victim In Encino Home Invasion Identified
Authorities believe the home invasion robbers got into the home through an open garage door.
ENCINO, CA — Authorities on Thursday identified an 80-year-old man who was shot at his home in Encino during a home invasion robbery. His killers remained at large Thursday.
Stuart Herman was shot and killed inside his home in the 4500 block of Densmore Avenue Wednesday evening, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office. Another man who arrived at the home from the grocery store during the crime was pistol-whipped by the attackers, who then fled the scene, the Los Angeles Police Department and reports from the scene confirmed. According to the Los Angeles Times, the second victim, a man in his 60s, was the victim’s brother-in-law.

The robbers got into the home through an open garage door, KABC7 reported.

Authorities released few details of the investigation into the killing, which was initially characterized as a home invasion robbery. Police said it appears this might not be the first crime committed by the suspects, due to the level of violence.
"No one starts out with this type of behavior, typically," LAPD Detective Sharon Kim told reporters at the scene.
