The Shabbos Project arrives in the Valley

The Shabbos Project - A Global Jewish Project - arrives in the Valley!

The Shabbos Project was originated in South Africa last year by Rabbi Warren Goldstein, the Chief Rabbi of South Africa, in an effort to inspire So. African Jews to all observe 1 Shabbos (Sabbath) according to Halacha (Jewish Law) from sundown to stars out, 25 hours, just once. It was a huge success and has now become a global project.

In our neighborhood, Shaarey Zedek Congregation, an Orthodox synagogue, is leading the community on its goal of inspiring East Valley Jews to join us and “keep” just one Shabbos, all together, the weekend of October 24th/25th.

There are many activities happening around The Shabbos Project. The first is a Challah Bake for women and girls (ages 14+) at 7:30 PM at Shaarey Zedek, 12800 Chandler Blvd. in Valley Village. Hundreds of women will create the dough and learn to braid traditional challah, recite the blessings together, and enjoy the spiritual and culinary Art of traditional Challah Baking. ($5 suggested donation pp to cover costs of supplies).

All are invited to join our Shabbat services on Saturday October 25th at Shaarey Zedek or at any local synagogue. The final event of the our local North Hollywood/Valley Village Shabbos Project will be a musical Havdallah service Saturday night, after the stars come out at Shaarey Zedek.
