Santa Rosa, CA - August 14, 2020 - The National Weather Service has issued a High Temperature Alert for Sonoma County starting today, Friday, August 14 at 11 a.m., through Friday, August 14 at 9 p.m. The highest temperatures during this time are expected to occur during the early afternoon and late afternoon. Warmer temperatures are expected to occur today in most areas of the County. These high temperatures are expected to continue next week.

Partners with the Sonoma County Department of Health Services (DHS) and Emergency Response remind residents that excessive heat poses a significant health risk, particularly to the elderly, young children, pregnant women and People with chronic diseases. Heat-related illnesses range from heat cramps and heat exhaustion to heat stroke and, in extreme cases, death. Symptoms of a heat-related illness include profuse sweating, muscle cramps, tiredness or dizziness, nausea or vomiting, headache, or weakness.

While it remains critical that we all practice social distancing for protection and avoid congregating in large groups during this COVID-19 pandemic, DHS recommends taking immediate action as necessary, such as visiting refrigeration stands or going to a home. neighbor with air conditioning, to protect their health and safety during this period of high temperatures. However, if you must shelter outside your home, continue to wear a mask and try to stay at least six feet away from others.   • Drink : Drink lots of cold fluids, even if you are not physically active and even if you are not thirsty. Avoid caffeinated or alcoholic beverages.
