About This Exhibition
Carry it with you is Ariana Stein’s (she/they) debut solo exhibition. Ari’s work is deeply rooted in folk tradition, both through their Hungarian-American heritage, and lineage in North Carolina pottery apprenticeship. As a child of immigrants living in America, Ari values the importance of generational knowledge in a hyper-modern world. Carry it with you invites viewers to examine craft as an active conversation that marries past places, cultures, and people with the artist’s perspective here, and now.
Artist Statement
Ariana Stein is a ceramic artist based in central North Carolina. She is a former apprentice to Kate Waltman and recipient of the 2025 Studio Potter Grant for Apprenticeship Program. Ariana has exhibited her work across the USA and internationally. She has won numerous awards for her work, including the First Annual NCECA Creative Research Fellowship to pursue a body of work in her country of heritage, Hungary, in 2025. Ariana’s work combines historic making traditions from North Carolina pottery with the visual patterns and compelling folklore of Hungarian folk art.
