foundational drawing techniques while sketching the beautiful trees at
Jack London State Park. Each student will choose a tree to draw, and
then spend time rendering their subject while receiving instruction in
proportion and other key drawing skills.Once students have an
established drawing, they will explore the light and shadow on their
tree with inventive colors in watercolor. Practice and build your
observational drawing skills, spend time in nature, and have fun with
color!Discover the meditative benefits of a plein air art
practice, and gain a deeper appreciation for the natural world around
you through close observation and intentional rendering. No prior
drawing experience necessary; beginners welcome. All materials are
provided and all experience and skill levels are welcome!After the workshop you may choose to go hiking, tour the museum, or walk to the ruins of the Wolf House.Important
note: There is a Vehicle Entry Fee of $15. After the kiosk, veer to the
right and proceed to the parking lot. All students will meet the
instructor in the parking lot and walk together to the workshop area.
Dress for the weather and bring a water bottle and snacks or a bag
lunch.

palette of transparent acrylic paint, focusing on creating a range of 
values from very light to very dark. Through experimentation with three 
different colors you’ll create interesting, subtle textures. Next, 
shapes will be cut from the tissue, followed by working with the pieces 
to develop composition and collage. For the final layer you’ll add marks
 with paint, pens (Micron), inks, and stamps, adding texture and 
interesting effects. You will have extra sheets of tissue to take home 
that you can use later in your collages or paintings. No prior artmaking
 experience required. This is a fun, easy, step-by-step process. All 
materials are provided. Feel free to bring snacks or a bag lunch to eat 
while you work.</a></h3>

Spend a day immersed in the art of drawing trees, set against the inspiring landscape of Jack London State Historic Park. This plein air workshop blends skill-building with outdoor observation, helping you deepen both your technique and your connection to the natural world.
In the morning, focus on foundational drawing principles—learning how to capture accurate proportions, simplify complex forms, and develop a strong sense of value. 
In the afternoon, attention shifts to the expressive qualities of trees, exploring texture, color, and light as observed directly from the landscape. Enhance your drawings with watercolor washes, adding depth, atmosphere, and color to bring trees to life. Step-by-step guidance ensures that finished piece reflects both structure and character.
Bring a picnic lunch for a mid-day break, and a lightweight folding chair if you have one (seating is also available at picnic tables, benches, or on the ground). All materials are provided.Artists of all experience levels are welcome!

The Cline Country Bluegrass Festival is back for its third year! Come relax, unwind, and re-Cline with talented bluegrass bands from across California—and beyond. Sip, savor, and enjoy a day of lively tunes and Summer vibes at Cline Family Cellars.
All attendees over the age of 12 must purchase a General Admission ticket. Free tickets for children 12 and under are available as add-ons to general admission ticket reservations. Ticket gets you entry to the festival here at Cline Family Cellars. Alcohol, food, and merchandise not included in ticket cost. Tickets will be required for entry, so please purchase in advance. Tickets are non-refundable, however, they are transferable.

Valley of the Moon Music Festival Concert 1: Bohemian Homeland

Storyteller Jeff Falconer will present a live reading of Jack London’s short story “The Water Baby” in the historic cottage garden.
Published in London’s Hawaiian story collection “On the Makaloa Mat,” this is a reflective tale that explores childhood, imagination, and humanity’s connection to the natural world. Set against a backdrop of water and wonder, the story offers a glimpse into a lesser-known side of London’s writing.
Guests are invited to gather beside the garden pond and experience the story as it was meant to be shared—through the spoken word. Following the reading, participants will have an opportunity to discuss the story’s themes and place within Jack London’s body of work.
This intimate program is part of the year-long celebration of Jack London’s 150th birthday and offers a unique chance to engage with one of his lesser-known short stories.
