Join guest Bay Area artist, Bettina Pauly in a special one-day workshop
in learning how to use different materials to create a printmaking plate
for a pasta machine using water soluble etching inks. Create your own
prints using a pasta machine as a press!Learn how to revive your manual hand crank pasta maker to make small drypoint fine line prints. This
popular technique uses the pressure that normally rolls out pasta dough
to print artwork instead! Students will engage with milk cartons, Tetra
Paks, and Akua plate material. Learn how to properly ink up the plate,
add packing to the pasta maker for the perfect impression, and pull
prints to make a small format 4 x 6 edition that can be produced
multiple times. The instructor will demonstrate how easy it is to use
and clean a pasta machine so using it for pasta AND printing can be an
option. Prints will be made using a drypoint needle and a cutting knife,
and will be printed on Rives BFK paper with oil-based etching inks.
This will be a day of fun experimentation in printmaking!The
materials fee includes; drypoint needle, chipboard, felt and printing
papers that students will be able to take home to continue making prints
on their own pasta machines. Please note: This
class requires some hand dexterity to maneuver the etching tools and
pasta machine. Participants should feel comfortable using tools with
sharp edges.
