In this special three-part workshop, participants will be introduced to

the art of Japanese woodblock printing called Ukiyo-E technique. Tomoko

Murakami, an acclaimed Bay Area, Japanese-born printmaking artist, will

demonstrate the traditional Mokuhanga carving and printing process.

Tomoko will introduce the relationship between positive and negative

space in relief printing techniques, including Kento registration.

Participants will learn to carve their own woodblocks using Japanese

carving tools to create small multi-color woodblocks and create prints

with non-toxic water-based inks on Japanese paper. Students will be able

to develop an appreciation of Japanese woodblock prints, materials,

processes and innovations. Learn to carve your own woodblocks and create

a small edition of multicolor prints! This class is perfect for

beginners as well as continuing students. All levels are welcome!Please note: This

class requires hand dexterity to maneuver the carving tools.

Participants should feel comfortable standing and using wood carving

tools with sharp blades and edges.
