Caltrans Begins Work on Highway 101 Widening
Part of much-anticipated Marin Sonoma Narrows project

Caltrans officials celebrated Thursday the groundbreaking of a project that will widen U.S. Highway 101 by adding two high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes between Novato and Petaluma.
The first phase of the project will add an HOV lane to northbound Highway 101 from state Highway 37 to Atherton Avenue, and another HOV lane on southbound Highway 101 from near Novato Creek to Highway 37, according to Caltrans.
The lanes will be constructed over two years as part of the Marin Sonoma Narrows Widening Project to widen and improve Highway 101 in the area.
