Colors From Nature, Natural Dyes Workshop with Deepa
Learn How To Extract Color from Plants and Come Home With A Beautiful Scarf!
Join Deepa Natarajan for an afternoon of exploring natural dyes at Quarryhill Botanical Garden on Sunday, July 19th 1:00-4:00 PM. You’ll learn about a number of plants available locally to extract color from and will focus on a couple of plants and a variety of extraction and application techniques. Take home a scarf and samples in a variety of fibers.
Deepa has spent nearly ten years working for the University of California Botanical Garden at Berkeley, as the public program coordinator, furthering her pursuit of ethnobotany. She has presented a wide variety of courses and events in traditional medicine, natural dyes and fibers, paper making, soap making, cooking and many other uses of plants, and also coordinating the garden’s first ever “green gala,” a sustainable fashion show. Deepa believes that gardens can be a source of all things we need, from foods to medicines, garments to shelters, beauty and inspiration.
