Dining Out for Christmas

Don't want the hassle of cooking an elaborate meal on Christmas day? Here's what's open.

You've spent days decorating, shopping, baking and cleaning — cooking a giant meal might be just enough to push you over the edge.

If you want to relax and enjoy the day, without the hassle and pressure of preparing an elaborate meal, don't fret, there are plenty of options around the Sonoma Valley. 

You're choices range from moderately priced diners to more expensive, elegant restaurants offering a fancy menu or buffets. Whatever your budget, you will find a local restaurant offering a wonderful meal that will fit in perfectly with your holiday plans.

For Christmas, the family friendly diner offers a full prime rib dinner, with two sides and a salad, for $15. Black Bear will be open Christmas day from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Find them at 201 W. Napa Street. For more information call (707) 935-6800.

Sante Restaurant,

Located at the swanky Fairmont Inn, Sante Restaurant hosts "The Christmas Grand Buffet," featuring a smorgasbord of traditional dishes with multiple stations. Dining in style will cost you: the buffet runs $89 for adults, $39 for children 5-12. Children under 5-years-old are free. The Buffet is served from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Christmas day. Big 3,

The Fairmont Inn's more casual restaurant is also open for business on Dec. 25, with a special menu. They offer soup, salad, appetizers, a choice of two entrees and dessert—all a la carte. They're open from 3 – 9:30 p.m. on Christmas; call the Inn, 707-938-9000, to make a reservation.

Carnaros Bistro, The Lodge At Sonoma.

The cozy bistro offers a set menu for Christmas, consisting of soup or salad, a choice of main course, and seasonal desserts. (They'll pair the menu with wines, if you request.) The meal costs $55 for adults, $30 for children. The wine pairings cost $21, $34, and $38 for a choice of three wines in each price catagory. Find them in the Lodge at Sonoma, 1325 Broadway, and call for reservations: (707) 931-2042.

Saddles Steakhouse, MacArthur Place.

This Christmas Saddles offers a mouth-watering set menu; including a wild mushroom and Gruyere tartlet and marrow crusted filet mignon. In all, there are four entrees and three desserts to choose from. The set menu costs $49.50 for adults, $25 for children, 12 and under. They serve Christmas day, 3 – 7:30 p.m., at MacArthur Place Inn, 29 East MacArthur St. Contact them at (707) 933-3191 for reservations.

Vintage House

Though the Sonoma Community Center canceled their popular Christmas bash, the Vintage House Senior Center is still offering their free Christmas day dinner to all Sonoma Valley seniors 55 and up. The sit down dinner runs from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m., and includes turkey with all the trimmings. If you can't make it, Vintage House will deliver a holiday meal to your door. Reserve for dinner by calling 707-996-0311, deadline for meal delivery is Dec. 20. Vintage House Senior Center is located at 264 First St. East.

So try something different: enjoy a fabulous Christmas dinner and savor more time with your family and less time cooking and cleaning. Tis' the season!
