Giordano Appointed Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner

BREAKING: Newly appointed Sheriff Rob Giordano has been serving in the interim role since former Sheriff Steve Freitas' early retirement.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- Rob Giordano, who has been serving since Aug. 1 as the interim Sonoma County sheriff-coroner since the unexpected retirement of former Sheriff Steve Freitas last month, was unanimously appointed Tuesday by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors to serve as sheriff for the remainder of Freitas term.

Giordano has been a peace officer in California for 28 years, serving with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office since 1996. His experience includes patrol, SWAT, management of various services, and investigations, including the Coroner Unit.

Giordano will serve as the Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner through Jan. 7, 2019, at which time whomever is elected sheriff in 2018 will take office. Giordano will not run for sheriff in the upcoming election, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Tuesday.
