Jail Inmate Attacks 2 Deputies: Sonoma County Sheriff's Office
Additional charges are now sought against Sean Seeman, who has been in custody since July 2018 for an alleged attack on a barista.

SANTA ROSA, CA ‒ A Sonoma County jail inmate is facing additional charges after authorities say he injured two correctional deputies in a calculated attack. Sean Michael Seeman, 27, is accused of using a shank made out of a toothbrush to attack the two deputies at about 10 a.m. Wednesday as they entered his cell to conduct a routine inspection, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.
Seeman has been incarcerated in Sonoma County jail since July 2018 for an alleged attack on a female barista at a Roasters coffee shop in Forestville.
Wednesday morning, sheriff's officials said Seeman was seated on his bed when the deputies entered his cell. As one of the deputies was picking up a pile of clothing off the floor, Seeman lunged at the deputy and swung the sharpened weapon at him, attempting to stab the deputy in the head or neck area, sheriff's officials said.

The deputy reportedly blocked Seeman’s hand and shoved the inmate backward toward the bed, at which point the weapon flew out of Seeman's hand and the two deputies pinned the inmate to the bed.
Backup deputies then responded and took Seeman into custody.

Sheriff's officials later determined the weapon was a toothbrush that had been filed to a point and wrapped with a cloth handle to make it a stabbing instrument commonly called a shank.

The two deputies involved in the incident were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The first deputy suffered a very large bruise to the side of his body, sheriff's officials said. The second deputy complained of pain and was checked as a precaution.
Seeman was not injured in the incident, according to the sheriff's office.
Thursday afternoon, Seeman was being held without bail as the sheriff's office sought to file additional charges against him for suspected attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer with violence and manufacture of weapon by an inmate.
Seeman was already facing numerous felony charges in relation to the alleged assault on a barista one year ago this month.
The sheriff's office did not immediately disclose the names of the two deputies injured in Wednesday's alleged jail attack. Both were treated and released from the hospital.
