Accused 'NorCal Rapist' Arrested At UC Berkeley
Roy Charles Waller is accused of brutally raping women at gunpoint over a 15-year-period.

BERKELEY, CA — A serial rapist who allegedly attacked women at gunpoint over the course of 15 years has been identified by authorities as 58-year-old Roy Charles Waller, a worker at UC Berkeley who was arrested on campus. Law enforcement officials in Sacramento announced the arrest of the Benicia resident at a news conference Friday morning.
The university sent a letter to the university community, saying that "None of the crimes he is alleged to have committed took place on or near campus, but this is nonetheless deeply unsettling.
"UCPD officials were made aware of Waller’s impending arrest earlier this week and learned of the charges this morning. Again, while there is no indication that any crimes occurred within the campus community, UCPD will review any open sexual assault cases to determine if any might be related."

Authorities call him the NorCal Rapist, and believe that he is responsible for a series of brutal rapes beginning in 1991 and continuing for 15 years.
Like the Golden State Killer who was arrested earlier this year, Waller was arrested based on DNA evidence.

Waller is accused of rapes in Rohnert Park, Sonoma, Vallejo, Martinez, Sacramento, Chico, Woodland and Davis. Sacramento District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert said he is being held on 12 counts and will be arraigned in court on Monday.
The Benicia Police Department is also looking at cold cases in the community where Waller lived. It is asking the residents to come forward with any information they may have.

The Sacramento Police Department said in a printed release, "Although some of these cases are close to 28 years old, this is still a very active investigation involving many different agencies. Detectives and Forensic Investigators have worked diligently throughout this investigation to process evidence, conduct extensive follow-up, and gather new information regarding these crimes. This has been a collaborative effort with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office to bring justice for the victims and those significantly impacted by these crimes."
