Santa Rosa Man Kills Girlfriend, Turns Himself In: Police
BREAKING: Weeks prior, the 38-year-old was arrested for domestic violence against the victim, according to police.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- A Santa Rosa man has been arrested on suspicion of killing his girlfriend after he reportedly walked into the lobby of the Santa Rosa Police Department early Friday morning and said he had assaulted her and "thought she might be dead," according to police. Upon forcing entry Friday into the couple's Russell Avenue apartment, officers found 42-year-old Veronica Cabrera Ramirez deceased inside, and booked Nery Israel Estrada Margos, 38, into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of her murder, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Josh Ludtke stated in a news release.
According to Ludtke, Estrada Margos and Cabrera Ramirez, who did not have children together, had been in a dating relationship and living together for approximately nine months.
But following his arrest Aug. 2 in an alleged domestic violence incident, Cabrera Ramirez had obtained an emergency protective order against Estrada Margos.

Based on statements and evidence, Ludtke said investigators believe Estrada Margos killed her sometime during the early morning hours Friday after the pair were in an argument.
"After interviewing Estrada Margos, who admitted to killing Cabrera Ramirez, he was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on murder charges," Ludtke said.
Police asked anyone with information regarding the case to call the Violent Crimes Investigation Team at 707-543-3590.
