Sonoma Co. Pursuit Ends In Crash, Arrest

BREAKING: The driver reportedly tried to flee after crashing into a fence, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- Sonoma County sheriff's deputies arrested a Santa Rosa man on a warrant for driving on a suspended license after a vehicle pursuit Wednesday night. A patrol deputy noticed that a dark colored Nissan driving south on U.S. Highway 101 near state Highway 12 was missing registration tags, sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Crum said.

When a license plate check revealed the car's registration had not been renewed since January 2015, the deputy tried to stop the car at Todd Road south of Santa Rosa, Crum said.

The Nissan driver, James Gunther, 30, fled west on Todd Road onto Moorland Avenue then north to East Robles Avenue, Crum said.

Gunther hit a culvert and ran over a traffic sign when he tried to turn left on Bellevue Avenue. The Nissan stopped when it hit a fence at Coggins Kennels at 98 Bellevue Ave., according to Crum.

Gunther ran but quickly was caught by deputies. He was arrested on a $15,000 arrest warrant for driving on a suspended license and violating a court order. He was booked into Sonoma County Jail under $35,000 bail.
